At the Danske Bank Group, we have worked for several years to make our IT equipment more energy-efficient. For example, we require that IT hardware follows the purchasing guidelines of the Danish Electricity Saving Trust (Elsparefonden). We also purchase as much hardware as possible with the energy-efficient appliances label or the energy star.
Digitalisation reduces paper consumption
In recent years, the Danske Bank Group has worked to digitalise a number of processes in order to optimise customer service and minimise costs and paper consumption. For example, the Group has worked to increase the number of customers who receive account and payroll statements as digital documents instead of paper documents. Today more than 140 million pages that previously were sent by ordinary mail are digitalised, and it now possible to sign some loans directly in the eBanking system. This gives our customers faster processing and reduces the burden on the environment significantly.
Employees are also involved
We also make an effort to reduce paper consumption internally at Danske Bank. In autumn 2010, we launched a campaign to get staff to reduce printing in their daily work. The campaign ran in Denmark and Ireland in 2010, and it will continue at additional country units in 2012.
From 2008 to 2011, the Group reduced paper consumption in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Ireland and Northern Ireland by more than 33%.
