Buildings are some of the biggest energy consumers in our society. Some 40% of Europe’s total energy consumption comes from heating, ventilation, lighting and electrical appliances in buildings. Reducing energy consumption in buildings is therefore one of the most effective ways of cutting CO2 emissions.
At the Danske Bank Group, we have a good platform for making our customers aware of opportunities to reduce their energy consumption. Since we finance the purchase and renovation of homes, it make sense for us to promote knowledge about energy-saving improvements. It is usually much less expensive to make such improvements if you are already planning to enlarge or renovate your home.
Guidance in energy optimisation
In 2009, Realkredit Danmark, the Group’s mortgage finance company, launched an energy calculator at www.klogem2.dk (“smart square metres”, in Danish only). The site enables homeowners to determine what various energy-saving renovations will cost and to get an estimate of cost savings and the possible increase in property value resulting from the investment. In addition, Realkredit Danmark has a collaborative arrangement on energy advisory services with the Bolius consulting firm, which can provide a plan for energy-saving renovations.
Together with Danske Bank Denmark, Realkredit Danmark is also a partner in the Danish Ministry of Climate and Energy’s “1 tonne less” energy campaign. The campaign provides information for homeowners about energy-saving improvements and renewable energy at energisparebolig.dk (in Danish only).
