As a financial enterprise, the Danske Bank Group has relatively low CO2 emissions and thus a lower environmental impact than companies in many other industries. But with more than 22,000 employees, our annual emissions are still significant. In 2008, total emissions from the Group's activities amounted to just over 65,000 tonnes. This corresponds to the emissions of about 6,500 inhabitants in Denmark.
The Group’s greatest environmental impact is its impact on the climate. We have therefore developed a climate strategy that describes the concrete objectives and activities we will pursue to reduce this impact.
As part of the climate strategy, the Group has set a goal of becoming carbon neutral at all units by the end of 2009. In order to neutralise the Group's CO2 emissions, we will initiate energy-saving measures in our operations and offset emissions by purchasing carbon credits.
