In 2007 the Group introduced a range of initiatives to reduce paper consumption.
Electronic solutions such as online banking help reduce the amount of paper used since fewer letters are sent to customers. Beginning in January 2008, around 400,000 Danish customers who use online banking will receive their account statements electronically. We expect this change to save at least 80 tonnes of paper per year. In Norway, Ireland and Northern Ireland, customers using online banking already receive their account statements electronically, and we plan to roll out the system in Sweden and Finland during 2008.
Local initiative saves 10 tonnes per year
Another initiative to reduce paper was launched in the Credits department, where all annual reports from corporate customers have been transferred from hard copy to the IT system. This change is expected to save time, money and up to 10 tonnes of paper per year. In 2007 the solution was implemented for Danish corporate customers, and we are currently working on a similar solution for Swedish customers.
