Realkredit Danmark calls innovative physical settings "Smart Square Metres" and wants to support innovative thinking in businesses and homes. It does so by awarding grants to innovative businesses and providing information to homeowners who are considering renovations.
Make your home project a good investment
On Realkredit Danmarks Web site klogem2.dk ("smart square metres", in Danish only) homeowners can calculate whether their project is a good investment. It offers expert knowledge about residential property assessment, inspiring suggestions and several unique calculators.
One of the calculators is an energy calculator. It is intended to give homeowners an idea of what it would cost to improve the energy consumption in their homes and whether the improvement would ensure or increase their home's value.
Smart Square Metres Award
Every year since 2006, Realkredit Danmark has given its Smart Square Metres Award to an innovative Danish business. In 2009, Realkredit Danmark awarded a business that has made an extra effort to reduce energy and heat consumption and hereby CO2 emissions. The recipient was to be a business that made an extra effort at emissions reductions related directly to the physical construction or functional design of its buildings.
The winner was the network business House of Dreams which received the prize for their sustainable life-style house where all products and activities must be sustainable. The sun is the sole energy source for heating and a new Solar Wall installation provides heating, cooling and air circulation through the same system. This reduces the total carbon emissions by more than 25%, even though the need for cooling has increased. House of Dreams also installed two small windmills on the building.
