The Danske Bank Group's general business conditions include a requirement that all suppliers comply with the prevailing legislation, including environmental regulations. On the basis of our environmental policy, we also set forth additional absolute requirements and indicative guidelines on environmental issues for selected product groups.
In both 2008 and 2009, the Group used environmental criteria to screen all suppliers of selected products and services. The environmental profiles of suppliers in these product groups improved dramatically from 2008 to 2009.

The objective of environmental screening is to ensure and document that over time the Group's suppliers become able to fulfil the following requirements:
- The supplier has an environmental management system (EMS). Certification is not required.
- If the supplier's products are produced by a subcontractor, the supplier is responsible for controlling that the subcontractor complies with the Danske Bank Group's environmental requirements.
If a supplier does not have a minimal EMS, the individual purchaser is responsible for determining whether it is possible to switch to a supplier who does comply with this requirement.
The environmental screening is conducted by the Group's purchasers on the basis of publicly available information or by means of a questionnaire completed by the supplier. There may also be supplementary questions in certain product areas.
In 2006, the Group set a target that, by the end of 2011, 90% of its purchases in selected product groups must be made from suppliers that comply with the requirements for an environmental management system. The chart above shows that we are working purposefully towards that end.
