The acquisition of Sampo cemented Danske Bank's position as the No. 2 bank in the Nordic region. Sampo Bank has an impact primarily on Danske Bank's geographic profile and less on its business mix, due to the very similar business profiles and relative size of the two banks.

Market position
The acquisition of Sampo Bank consolidated Danske Bank's position as the second-largest player among the Nordic banks. The table below shows that Danske Bank is a market leader in Denmark and Northern Ireland and a challenger in Norway, Sweden and Ireland. By acquiring Sampo Bank, Danske Bank broadens its Nordic scope to include a position as the third-largest bank in Finland and the third-largest foreign bank in the fast growing Baltics.
