A personal bank
National Irish Bank is a small, personal bank and I think this affects the way we do business here. I enjoy being close to customers and working in a branch office gives me an opportunity to meet people face-to-face. As a personal banker, I deal with mortgages, insurance and basically try to do my best to meet customers’ needs. A big part of my job is to take care of customer relationships. However, I am also involved in training new employees.

Danske Bank takes over
I joined National Irish Bank only a year before Danske Bank's acquisition of it. I did not know much about the Danske Bank Group at the time but the first impression was positive: Danske Bank is a very respected and a constantly growing bank. Becoming part of the group made a big difference to our lives. Danske Bank implemented great technology and introduced a new way of doing business. Now everything happens more quickly and much of the decision making takes place in branch offices. That enables us to provide our customers with an efficient and personal service.

Tough migration
It was great to get new systems and products but it was also very tough to learn to use them. Fortunately, much effort was put into making sure that we understood the new products and systems. I feel that Danske Bank has been looking after us well. All in all, it has been an exciting process, during which I got to know more people, made new friends and most importantly, it improved our team spirit within National Irish Bank a great deal.

A modern bank
We are now a modern bank. It is a totally different bank and a different mindset from what we had before. For example, the products I work with are completely new. Now we sell packages and the idea is to cover all our customers’ needs. It is definitely a more holistic approach to serving our customers. I became a personal banker after migration and I am happy where I am now. However, it is great to know that we have new job opportunities, and the structured personal development plan is an excellent tool to figure out in which direction I would like to go in the future.

Danske’s ambassadors
We are still extremely busy with the migration and I am sure the work will never calm back to the earlier level again. I do not mind at all, as long as the things I do are interesting and challenging. In addition, we have a new challenge: we need to live up to Danske Bank’s reputation. We are now Danske Bank’s ambassadors in Ireland.

Leisure: Socialising with friends, cinema, and yoga.

Best staff benefits: Many things were upgraded after Danske Bank's acquisition of our bank, including getting new laptops, new bonus system, training and salary increases.

In five years: I could imagine being a senior personal banker or manager, working with premier customers.
