You can try out a whole range of areas
I wanted to work within the financial sector and Danske Bank was at the top of my list. It was always somewhere I wanted to be. My daily work involves keeping a watching brief on the risk profiles of Realkredit Danmark’s bond portfolio. Interest rate increases or reductions naturally impact on the division’s profitability – we’re talking billions of kroner. 

Plenty to learn as the new boss
I was recently appointed head of the department so it is really new for me. Right now, there are many other aspects of my job, apart from interest rates, which require my attention. For example, I have just recruited a new member of staff so now we are 11 colleagues in the department. One of the learning processes I have gone through is how to manage staff. The Group has a course programme for recently appointed managers, so there is good back-up.

Good career prospects
I was very pleased to have been appointed head of the department after six months. Professionally there isn’t a great difference in the type of work I do compared with my previous job, but being the boss requires more input on the administration and staff front.

There are 11 employees in my department and many of them have been there longer than me. They are very organised individuals who take personal responsibility for their assignments, which makes my role as a manager somewhat easier. I can concentrate on the global picture and also have time to deal with operational tasks.

Finger on the pulse
The older employees are the cultural standard bearers that help protect values. The culture in which they operate also means a great deal to young staff. This is where Danske Bank has its finger on the pulse, and the overall result is very professional. Because the Group is so large it also has responsibilities to society. This is something that you are quickly made aware of when you work here.

Leisure: I follow business and the stock market and am interested in modern art. I have a holiday home and enjoy the countryside. I have worked for 4-5 different organisations and take my network with me when I move, so I also have a large circle of acquaintances to look after.

In five years: I enjoy my work and there are good prospects. I could well end up in another department, naturally also in the Danske Bank Group.
