The big picture
I was studying for my masters degree in London when I decided that I would like to put my energies into the financial sector. During my dissertation I therefore took a job at Morgan Stanley, the American bank. However, for personal reasons, I decided to come home to Denmark. Around the same time, a friend happened to tell me about a job as a graduate trainee. As a result I joined the programme in 2004, which was the start of my career in Danske Capital, where I now work in a management role.

Trainee programme gave me a network and a dream job
In my eyes, Danske Bank has always been synonymous with expertise. Because I identify myself with things that are streamlined, disciplined and efficient, I decided to take a graduate traineeship in the Group. Today, the programme has given me my dream job, a strong network and considerable knowledge of the Group. This knowledge is extremely valuable when taking your career development into account.
Active management pays off
Danske Capital manages over DKr700bn for a number of clients and is responsible for the asset management function of the Danske Bank Group. My group deals with allocations between the overall asset groups. Our horizons are primarily short-term, i.e. tactical allocation. Research is a fundamental basis for allocation in our own portfolios with both a relative and an absolute focus. This also doubles as an advisory tool for external clients.
Flexible working environment
Essentially, we are responsible for constantly having an opinion about the future and have to be ready to present this opinion to both internal and external partners. Our projects therefore include ongoing analysis of financial and economic trends as well as developing new tools that can strengthen our investment process. Our work is not generally controlled by too many deadlines, which ensures a flexible working environment.
Analyst’s recommendation
My advice to future trainees: Step on the gas! If you want to make a difference then you must be independent and have your own opinions – the world is open to all, it just requires some effort.
Steep learning curve
What counts most for me is that I am on a steep learning curve, in which I can make a difference personally and professionally. That’s the most important thing for my development.
