Front line
To a large extent, the things that motivate me in my job are the Danske Bank Group financial products that we sell, which are typically market leaders. We’re there on the front line. If I had to highlight a less positive side of working within such a large group it would be the political factor. Every now and then decisions are made which, from my position, don’t seem to be rational. It can be frustrating.

Managing market risk
My department is a specialist unit. We have joint responsibility for dealer reporting on a daily basis. This means that, amongst other tasks, I have to ensure the validity of the data which forms the basis of the daily dealer performance reports. We also have the job of assessing Danske Market’s foreign exchange risks and also of ensuring that we report potential risks so that these can be hedged correctly. To manage Danske Market’s financial risks we use a software product called SUMMIT – hence the name of the department where I work.

Contact throughout the Group
I have extensive contact with other areas of the Group – especially IT developers who constantly fine-tune SUMMIT in line with our requirements and platform.

The Danske Bank Group operates on the principle of “one Group, one platform”. When we acquire another bank, my department is involved in the integration of our systems. We make sure that all dealer systems’ functionality is implemented correctly, so trading is synchronised with the bank’s accounting system. So far this has led to interesting and challenging cooperation with Danske Bank in Sweden, Northern Bank in Northern Ireland and recently with Sampo Bank in Finland.

Opportunities to transfer within the Group
I have actually worked in several different in the Bank, but, in essence, I have always been involved in the same areas. However, I am motivated by the fact that I know that if I ever felt like doing something else there are always opportunities to work elsewhere within the Group.

Leisure: Cycling, running, squash and trekking/mountaineering. Some of my latest trips have taken me to Mount Everest Base Camp, Mount Elbrus and Kilimanjaro.

Best benefit: My extremely professional colleagues. Also, it counts for a lot that the Group focuses on the complete person. There has to be a harmonic interplay between work and private life.

In five years: Hmmm, my starting point is that I am employed by the best bank in the Nordic region. My current job is in total accord with my ambitions. So I am not actively considering other roles within the bank. I participate in the bank’s “Emerging Leaders Programme”, which aims to develop me both personally and professionally. The purpose of the programme, which includes a mentoring system, coaching sessions and a stay at a well-known international business school, is to work with my skills and talents so as to prepare me for the next step.
