From diplomat  to Danske Bank

It was a tough decision to leave the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where my job was also a lifestyle. This made it important to be able to work internally in my new job and use my international experience. It was also important that Danske Bank was in front when it comes to HR and that the Group has an ambition to be best in class

Qualifications: MA political science
Job title: Senior HR Specialist
Location: Talent and Succession
Experience: Joined Group in 2007 after 14 years with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

Who will succeed the top managers in the Group?
I work with succession planning and talent development. My particular area of responsibility is the succession process in 2007 and the internationalisation of the Group’s talents. One of the programmes we are working on concerns shorter postings abroad, with the aim of strengthening the international mindset of our younger talents. This area in the Group is increasingly in focus to ensure that future managers think about, and understand the Group from an international perspective.

Danske Bank is far more international
There are several similarities between Danske Bank and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But I have been struck by the fact that Danske Bank is less rigid in terms of social conventions, less formal in its way of thinking and far more international than I thought. Working in such a large Group also means that you have a larger playing field on which to operate. A large HR development team provides opportunities for looking at subjects in-depth and in new ways within individual disciplines. As a recent member of staff I have noticed that there is considerable focus on personal and professional development in the job.

Common platform and the individual brand
The fact that I work in a multi-branded company is a theme that runs through all the areas of my work. We need to be focused and aware of both the common platform and the features that characterise each individual brand.

What characterises both aspects of my job in the Group is that I am involved in working on strategically important cases; and that I need to use my political flair and intuition, and be able to work across frontiers and cultures. Best of all, I have some fantastic colleagues who are highly qualified and have a great sense of humour.

Leisure: Most time spent with my child, but also dance, run and café latte in a nice café.

Best staff benefits: Opportunities for personal and professional development – and organic food always available in the staff canteen.

In five years: It is too soon to answer that one because I have only been working in the Bank for three months.
