I previously had a student job at Danske Bank’s foreign exchange office at Copenhagen Airport, and this gave me the impression that Danske Bank is a responsible employer that cares much about its employees. In September 2009, I joined Danske Bank’s Graduate Programme. In that way, I was off to a good start in a large group.

Monitoring the Group’s work processes
Internal Audit has 190 employees, including 50 employees outside Denmark. The department is an independent unit responsible for monitoring the Group’s work processes within IT, support functions at the branch network, products and preparation of accounts. One of our main responsibilities is to assess whether the Group has the necessary systems in place to enable the employees to carry out their jobs in the best possible way.
More action
I work at Products & Processes. It may sound a bit boring, but the job is actually really interesting. I get to visit the Group’s various units and departments to take a closer look at things. My job is all about helping to make the processes as efficient as possible. For instance, when you are auditing the home loan process, you must follow the product from when the customer contacts the Bank until he or she has bought the house and everything is in place and then until the loan has been repaid.
Small businesses in the business
I think it is interesting that we are so many small “businesses” within the business that need to cooperate. When something in a process goes wrong, it often happens when responsibility is transferred from one unit to another. Therefore, I think that transfers of responsibility are interesting – especially in a large group.
Stereotypical perception
I do not carry out actual audit work. I have a very broad and general education. I also studied in London for one semester with focus on global banking and management of financial institutions. Since we are representatives of the audit department, I also think that we have an important communication task as people often have a stereotypical perception of us. We must tell people that we are not out to get them but that we actually want to offer our assistance.
Broad education and good start
I joined the Graduate Programme as a CBS graduate. During my first years at the Danske Bank Group, I got the chance to work at various units and find out how things are done. This has given me broad knowledge about the Group and a good network as I have gotten to know people better. In that way, I was off to a good start, and it is a sensible way to begin your career in a large group.
