From Stockholm  to Copenhagen

I moved from Stockholm to southern Sweden close to Denmark because I have a Danish boyfriend. Many Swedes are rather daunted by the Danish language, but it was not as big a problem as I had imagined. Of course there are some cultural differences, but not nearly as significant as being in Africa. It is interesting to find out about another culture although the difference between Denmark and Sweden is about nuances. I think it has added a dimension to my career.

Job title: Senior Product Manager
Location: Group Cash Management
Experience: Eighteen months with Group. Previously with SEB and Trygg-Hansa in Stockholm

Creating new products
I work with product development, solutions and concepts for all the branded divisions in relation to payments and cash management. I look at how a company organises its incoming and outgoing payments in the most efficient way. Our products must continually present new openings to help customers improve the efficiency of their processes and optimise their working capital.

Currently I am working on a new and interesting system for electronic collections and invoicing. I do not know whether what I am doing will have a major or minor impact for the bank in 5-10 years, but that is what makes the work even more interesting. I must keep up with what is happening in the market, but it is sometimes difficult to decide whether it is important to be ahead of the market or if we should wait until there the demand is sufficiently large.

No two days are the same
I work in a head office function which involves being in touch with many countries. Preferably, the different branded divisions in the other countries should be able to use what we do. Having such a diversified contact interface as mine also means that I am involved in a huge variety of assignments, which is why no two days are alike.

A completely new and second bank for me
I did not know much about Danske Bank when I lived in Stockholm; from my perspective the Bank was rather anonymous in Sweden. So when I joined the Group I was surprised at the scale of the Bank’s capacity, and how comprehensive and important the shared IT platform is. There are so many resources at its disposal, which means that if an assignment or project needs to be implemented, it will be.

Working for a major employer also means that resources are available if I want to attend courses or conferences. Alternatively, if I want too work in another department in the Group, then that is also possible. My assignments are constantly changing which means that my working days are varied. Danske Bank is definitely the most interesting bank to work for in this region.

Leisure: Having recently bought a house we are spending time doing our home and garden up. Otherwise, I go jogging and walking. We also travel, and recently had a weekend in Berlin.

Best staff benefits: Being pregnant, I am really pleased that I can take 28 weeks maternity leave on full pay. I am really looking forward to that. The lunch facilities are also super with plenty of delicious food at budget prices, something which would cost a lot more if you worked for a Swedish employer.

In five years: That is something I do not think about much. What is really important is that I have a stimulating job, great colleagues, a good boss and interesting daily work. There is always something new happening in the Bank which automatically provides variety. If I ever ran out of challenges then I have the possibility to switch jobs or apply to another department. So I can well imagine Danske Bank being my employer in five years time.
