Room for specialization  - and spare time

When I was a student, I got a job at Credit Research, and after I had passed my exams I continued as a full-time employee. When I wanted new challenges, I was offered a move to Credit Shipping, where I am currently developing my skills and expertise. It means a lot to me to have a job where I can concentrate fully on specific tasks, work analytically and have a life outside work.

Sofie Segerström, 28 years

Qualifications:  MSc (Finance & Strategic Management)
Job title: Credit Consultant
Location: Credit Shipping, Credit Corporate Banking
Experience: Credit Research in 2007
as a student and from 2009 full-time. Credit Shipping from january 2011.

Hard to believe
At Credit Shipping we process loan applications from many different shipping companies, which, typically, need money for new vessels. Sometimes, it is hard to believe it when you see a loan application of one billion Danish kroner. It is our job to recommend whether the loan be granted based on budgets, financial statements and future prospects. This, obviously, requires that we know the shipping business inside out.

Focus on my development
A lot is done to make sure I get the expert knowledge I need in my job. My manager has also been good at pinpointing my capabilities. In the beginning, for instance, I thought my education had made me pretty good at understanding financial statements, but after two months in the accounting department, I have improved significantly. I have also attended an intensive Ship Finance course in Cambridge, so I am well on my way to becoming a specialist.

Interesting when things go wrong
We are also involved if a company has trouble repaying its debts. I find this interesting because then we can work with the company to find a solution to the problems. If everything ran smoothly all the time, there would never be any challenges. I like a bit of variation, and shipping offers tasks from one extreme to the other.

Close to the managers
I was surprised to see how close the employees at Group Credit are to the managers, as their input is often required when making decisions about loans.
And this only makes the job even more interesting.

Leisure: I like to run, cook, travel and spend time with my boyfriend.

Best staff benefit: We have just bought an apartment and appreciated the good loan conditions. But the most important thing for me now is still that there is flexibility and focus on my development.

In five years: I will still be working at Danske Bank, maybe at Group Credit, because I still have a lot to learn. It could also be interesting to work with credit at another unit, and, as I am Swedish, Danske Bank Sweden could be nice.
