I landed in my dream job at the first attempt

I started in Danske Bank as a graduate trainee in the credit area, where I was seconded to the department in which I still work today. It was my decision to carry on working in this department. My traineeship year was unbelievably educational and very well organised. You’re in touch with the other trainees and you move round different departments where you get to know many different staff and acquire an invaluable network. Primarily, I wanted to work with the development of credit models, which is what I do today.

Job title: Senior Analyst
Location: Group Credits, Credit Limits and Business Classification
Experience: Three years

Varied work
I develop business classification and credit limit models for all the branded divisions in the Danske Bank Group. Some of the models that we develop are used for assessing the credit risks of business customers so as to minimise losses for the Group. Because advisers use the models I develop, one of the aspects of my job involves working closely with many different advisers. My work is project oriented and the development of models can take from six months to a whole year.

Opportunity to use your talents
It’s interesting to work with such large projects knowing that they have an impact on both customers and advisers. I am motivated by the fact that my work affects many others, and that I am doing something that helps the Bank. In my department, you quickly assume considerable responsibilities. I have already been a project manager and have a real opportunity to use my talents in a really positive way.

A large group that embraces diversity
Because our department services all the branded divisions I meet a large number of people with widely different backgrounds. The fact that other brands use our models means that it is important to create a good dialogue. Acting as a sounding board means that I also travel a little. I think it is interesting that the work involves an international perspective.

The acquisition of a foreign company by the Group, for example, has a considerable impact on our department. New models need to be developed, implemented and maintained so that they comply with the relevant national legislation and regulations. It is interesting to meet other cultures, whether this involves travelling out to them or being in touch over the phone.

A very flexible company
Before I started working for Danske Bank, I thought that it was a stiff and hierarchical company, but actually it is not. On the contrary, it is a very flexible business. Last year, when I became a father I took 10 weeks paternity leave, which was a fantastic opportunity to get to know my new son. A distinctive feature of the department is the many young staff working here.

Leisure: Family and football.

Best staff benefits: Flexibility in planning of work assignments as well as possibility of taking 10 weeks paternity leave. It was a great opportunity.

In five years: I am sure I will be doing what I do now. There are always new challenges which means that work assignments are both stimulating and interesting. I was lucky to land my dream job at the first attempt.
