I was hired as a trainee in 2005 where I worked in different group units. After the programme my final choice was Group Security in the it development organisation where I work with information and it security as Group Security Analyst.

I am part of a lot of projects, in which I analyse and evaluate risks in connection with developing new systems on the Group’s platform and I work with the general risk situation for the Group. Apart from analysis and evaluation, my role is also to show the project how high security can add higher value. A good reputation and great confidence in the systems is central for the Group. It is easy to be categorised as a show-stopper, but I am very aware of that – you have to be in this job. It is easy to be a show-stopper, but the real challenge lies in setting up a good and safe show. Fundamentally, security deals with weighing a number of parameters, where the skill is to find the optimum balance.
A task can be to evaluate security in the infrastructure for the bank’s eBanking platform – including identifying weaknesses in the proposed architecture and suggesting improvements that are incorporated in the final requirement specifications for the solution.
Would like to be in management
During my studies, I received a number of fundamental tools concerning project management and programming. Although I do not use programming in my job, my basic knowledge gives me a better understanding of what I’m doing – and how I can do it best.
In the long term, I would like to be in management, but preferably in a job that also lays great emphasis on professional expertise. I would probably become too nerdy, if I just continued on the specialist track. As part of my plan, I participate in as many projects as possible, in order to build up my present specialist function, but also to expand my network in the Group as far as possible. The graduate trainee process and the job in the development organisation have both given me a large network throughout the Group. We are in constant contact with the business side and this also helps to cement and expand the network.
A lot to learn
A large organisation like Danske Bank’s development organisation gives many opportunities and contacts. I meet many people in different departments and that gives a natural dynamism and variety, which appeals to me a lot. The mixture of younger and older colleagues in the department provides challenges in many different ways and from many different angles. I have colleagues with a very high level of specialist knowledge, who are good at challenging me in my perhaps more innovative style. There is a lot to learn after university when you choose to specialise in information security, and I think I have found the best place to learn it.
