The Maths Centre works to advance young people’s maths competencies

January 2012, Danske Bank signed a sponsorship agreement with the Maths Centre (Matematikcenter), a volunteer organisation in Denmark and Sweden. The Maths Centre offers free homework assistance to young people in mathematics and personal finance. Investing in financial literacy is central to Danske Bank’s corporate responsibility work, so it is a logical extension of our own initiatives to support other projects such as the Maths Centre.

Maths Centre

Free help with homework for pupils from seventh class through secondary school

The original initiative for volunteer homework assistance began in Sweden in 2008 under the name Mattecentrum. It is now helps some 150,000 young people with their homework in 24 Swedish cities. In Denmark, the Maths Centre currently offers help with homework at 11 locations in the cities of Aarhus, Aalborg, Roskilde, Copenhagen, Silkeborg and Odense.

The programme can help young people feel more certain in their maths skills, and we believe this will benefit the individuals, Danske Bank and society alike.

The volunteer instructors at the Maths Centres are university students and Danske Bank employees. The programme is for both pupils who have difficulty with maths and those who want to attain the highest marks. They do not need to register in order to attend.
