The security measures in e-Safekey are based on recognised encryption.
e-Safekey is the Danske Bank Group's security software, which is installed on your PC and is used to manage the user ID, keys and passwords. The security measures in e-Safekey are based on recognised encryption principles with public and private keys.
Identification of the sender
You log on to Business Online or Business eBanking using your user ID and your password, which together represent an electronic signature. This provides the Bank with secure identification and gives you access to your accounts. Since your user ID is normally stored on your PC, you will need to use only your password when you log on.
The secret encryption key
When you use the system for the first time, you enter your temporary PIN. Afterwards, your personal secret encryption key is generated at random. The key is stored in your user ID together with information such as the originally assigned user ID. Your user ID is saved as a file on your PC and is protected by a password you choose yourself.
Logging on from another PC
To log on to the system, you must enter both the user ID and the password. This means that, if you need access to the system from another PC, you must bring your user ID with you. Read how you do this in the FAQ for your local version of the system.
e-Safekey is used to read your user ID
The security component receives your password and uses it to open your user ID so that the secret encryption key can be used for the electronic signature. Danske Bank does not know your password, and the password never leaves your PC. The password is linked to the user ID you use. If you use eBanking from more than one PC, you must switch your password on each PC.
Electronic signature
Technically, with e-Safekey, an electronic signature is based on a secret encryption key. The signature cannot be submitted without access to the encryption key and thus cannot be counterfeited or broken. Note that only the electronic signature is transmitted over the Internet.
Take good care of your password
It is important to keep your password secret (like the PIN for your credit card). This ensures that your electronic signature, which you use to execute financially binding transactions, can be created only by you. If you suspect that someone has gained knowledge of your password, you should order a new temporary PIN.
